Transformers One is an upcoming animated film that marks the eighth installment in the iconic Transformers film series. Based on Hasbro’s popular Transformers toy line, the movie is the first animated feature film in the franchise since “The Transformers: The Movie” (1986). Directed by Josh Cooley and penned by Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari, and Bobby Rubio, the film features an ensemble voice cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.
The story is described as an origin tale set on the planet Cybertron. It focuses on the complex relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron, depicting the circumstances that lead to them becoming archenemies and the respective leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons.
The concept for the film originated in March 2015 after the release of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014). Paramount Pictures enlisted Akiva Goldsman to collaborate with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura to establish a writer’s room for developing ideas for potential future Transformers films. Barrer and Ferrari joined the writers’ room by May of that year, and one of the proposed ideas was an animated prequel set on Cybertron.
The film was officially announced in August 2017, and by April 2020, Cooley had been appointed as the director. The title and the voice cast were unveiled in April 2023, with Industrial Light & Magic providing the animation.
“Transformers One” promises to offer fans a deeper understanding of the origins of the long-standing conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons, as well as the complex dynamics between Optimus Prime and Megatron. With its star-studded voice cast and the creative direction of Cooley, the film is poised to be an exciting addition to the Transformers franchise.

“Transformers One” is set for a theatrical release in the United States through Paramount Pictures on September 20, 2024.
The animated film “Transformers One” boasts a notable voice cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Steve Buscemi, along with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm. This movie is unique as it is the first fully CG-animated installment in the Transformers series. It provides an untold origin story, exploring how the once close friendship between Optimus Prime and Megatron dissolved, ultimately leading to a bitter rivalry that changed the destiny of Cybertron.
Recently, a trailer preview was showcased at CinemaCon, where Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry presented the film’s opening scene in 3D. Hemsworth lends his voice to Orion Pax, the young version of Optimus Prime, while Henry voices D-16, a younger version of Megatron.
The film is directed by Josh Cooley, known for his work on “Toy Story 4,” and features a script penned by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. It is a collaboration between Paramount Animation, Hasbro, and New Republic Pictures.
